statement of purpose

My name is Chai Zhandi, an ambitious guy who want to be a successful businessman. “Successful” is a big word. However, as I defined, successful means making a living, making contributions to the society and harvesting many professional knowledge. My interest in management dates back to my years in middle school. Because at that time, I was so proud of my father. He is an outstanding businessman and good at managing affairs and communicating with strangers. Due to a dearth of efforts in necessary skills for expand my job and career further, I decided to studying graduate programs in America since United States is a country that has rigorous academic atmosphere. That’s my dream. In addition, I had work experience as a sales assistance of sports goods for three months. I learned much from that period such as how to manage your inventory, how to make your layout more attractive and so forth. All in all, everything I did are prepared for my future career. The MS in management will allow me achieve my goal of to be a successful businessman.

Several years ago, when I graduated from high school, I entered university to study for a bachelor’s degree of marketing. The major of marketing is my first choice since it is a management related major. During this time as an undergraduate, something I felt interesting that I discovered from my major courses is brand management. One assignment of this course is we were required to create a new brand and then to show it in front of professors, students and even some entrepreneurs. This assignment got me thinking about the importance of management. You should arrange the time for this assignment precisely, implement group talking frequently and draw up a plan carefully. All of these works are inseparable from the knowledge of management.

Access to relevant work experience is also very essential for me, because I can find out my shortage of problem handling and apply theory of management knowledge that I learned into practice. In that case, I got a job in a sports goods supermarket. As a sales assistant, I am responsible for introducing products to customers and managing my shelves. In the meantime, my manager of department taught me many skills that I cannot access in school. For example, organize your shelves first and put the products in an order from lower price to higher price. The purpose of this operation is getting meager profit but high turnover.

Now I have been a member of INTO Mason pathway students. I take a lot of language classes such as EAP, a class helps my academic writing, and PROV, a course that offers me many useful information for further study in George Mason.

For the university, George Mason, and my Major, management, that I selected, I am very excited about. As far as I know, the Business school ranking of Mason is high and the development of Business school has developed in recent years. This information illustrated me that studying in George Mason will support me a lot for my future career since it has powerful business background.

Moreover, “interest is the best teacher”, I am so interested in management as I mentioned before. In addition, my undergraduate major is marketing, which belongs to management degree. Thus, I believe that I have requisite knowledge to fit in this program. One interesting thing is that I was participate a test about personal strength, and the result showed that I am good at communication and love challenges, which are typical characteristics of manager. Accordingly, management is the most suitable major for me. I am so interested and passionate in management and I can make contribution to this program by using my creativity.
If I graduated from my current program, it means that I obtain a lot of professional skills and knowledge of management, which will increase my competitiveness to find a good position.
Consequently, I have a big interest in management; I have relevant knowledge about management; I have inborn strengths in management and I have specific work experience of management. That’s why I think I am so fit for management program.
